Moving to Colombia

To move to Colombia from abroad, Moving Services arranges collection with its partner agent in your current country, freight to a Colombian port or airport, customs clearance through its own broker and delivery to your home. Foreigners’ household goods are treated according to their visa; returning Colombians can clear them as household goods or under Law 1565.

Diplomats and missions

Officials joining an embassy or international organization, under the relief regime that applies to them.

Returning Colombians

After years in the US, Spain or elsewhere, they ship their household goods home and choose the customs regime that suits them best.

If you are a foreigner: what we review with you

Colombia applies different treatment depending on your status, so we check it before you ship.

Before shipping

  • Your visa or permit type, which determines how your goods enter and whether they are taxed.
  • A valued inventory and proof of ownership of what you bring.
  • Whether to bring a vehicle or buy one in Colombia, given its import cost.

On arrival

  • Relocation support: housing through partner agencies, schools and immigration paperwork.
  • Storage in our free trade zone warehouse if your home is not ready.
  • Delivery and unpacking at your new address anywhere in Colombia.

Diplomatic shipments can travel under customs transit from the port to our free trade zone warehouse while the mission completes the relief.

If you are a returning Colombian

  • Law 1565: three or more years abroad, a Foreign Ministry beneficiary certificate, and no taxes up to the legal cap; usable once.
  • Standard household goods: 24 months abroad within the last three years and a single 15% tax; usable every five years.
  • Either way, goods must arrive between one month before and four months after you.
