Canada welcomes many Colombians every year as permanent residents, students and skilled workers. The make-or-break step in this move is declaring, at the border, everything that will arrive after you.

When moving from Colombia to Canada you must hand in a complete list of your goods at your first entry, split between what you bring and what will follow. The CBSA officer uses it to complete Form BSF186, which later lets your shipment clear duty-free if it qualifies as settlers’ effects.
For Ontario and Quebec the usual route is Atlantic, arriving via Montreal or Halifax; for British Columbia we ship from the Pacific to Vancouver.
Recommended if you are taking furniture and appliances.
For students or couples with a few cubic meters.
Handy for what you will need in your first winter.
Canada treats the belongings of people settling there as settlers’ effects, with no general value cap, provided they are declared properly.
If you decide to return after a few years, our agent packs in Toronto, Montreal, Calgary or Vancouver and your goods arrive through the Colombian port closest to your city. We advise on Law 1565 if you have three years abroad.
How moving to Colombia worksAnything missing from the list presented at your first entry may not be covered by the settlers’ effects exemption, which is why we build the inventory with you before you fly.
There is no general value cap for qualifying settlers’ effects; what matters is that the goods are yours and were used before you arrived.
Only if it meets Transport Canada rules in addition to customs clearance. Check before paying for shipping.
It depends on your volume and budget; we price it by volumetric weight and compare air against sea.
